Plant the Right Flowers

It is essential to plant the right flowers! Some tried-and-true blooms that keep the hummers coming back are staples at Green Side Up in Fayetteville, NC. These flowers include honeysuckle, scabiosa, daylilies, bee balm, and hibiscus, just to name a few. It is also important to continually deadhead these flowers, so your plant will continue to produce new blooms. You must keep the food source constant!

Refresh Your Nectar

The moment ants or any other debris get into the nectar, the hummingbirds stop feeding from your feeder. It is important to change out the nectar on a regular basis and to always keep nectar in the feeder. If ants have found your feeder, purchase an ant moat. This will prevent the ants from reaching the nectar! It is also important to note that hummingbirds will feed on nectar that is clear! While we’ve all been conditioned to think that red nectar is the only nectar that will attract hummers, it simply is not true! So, if you want to feed the hummers with homemade nectar, that’s a-ok!

Provide a Hummingbird Swing

Hummingbirds love to watch over their food source, as they are very territorial! Why not provide them with an instant perch to do just that?! Typically, you want to hang the perch within a couple of feet of the feeder. This will also allow you to watch the hummers for a longer period of time! Enjoy!
