While there are many things to look forward to in the summer months there is one thing that always ruin the fun, mosquitoes. Mosquitoes thrive in the hot weather and when summer comes, so do they. While mosquitoes can be a pain, they are an itch you can scratch when following the proper procedures.

The first thing to know is that mosquitoes are attracted by standing water. Fayetteville is a moist area to begin with, but if you can control the additional water you can eliminate the red bites covering your body. Think of all the areas that contain water around your home (i.e cans, buckets, containers, birth baths, wheelbarrows, flower pots, or vases.) Simply turning those containers over and draining the water decreases mosquitoes. As far as bird baths goes, all it takes is flushing and cleaning the bath once a week. While it may seem like you are doing excessive work, you will be much happier in the long run when you are the one person who is itch free.

Buckets and containers are not the end of it though. For example, your gutters are a watering hole for mosquitoes. Proper cleaning of that area as well will decrease your mosquito intake around your home. All the leaves and debris in your gutters attract mosquitoes and can create conditions that would be best described as unpleasant and possibly structurally damaging. It all boils down to just taking care of your surrounding area so that mosquitoes will go to the person who chose not to take precautions.

For those of you who are the hostess with the mostest, you should know that the extra mile will go a long way. Simply burning torches or candles will help keep mosquitoes away, especially in the afternoon and night when mosquitoes are the worst due to all the moist air Fayetteville. As an extra caution, there are multiple products that can be used to keep out the unwanted insects. Products like Mosquito Beater and Mosquito Dunks will surprise you and all your guests with the decay of bites they will endure during the annual Summer BBQ.

Don’t let mosquitoes keep you from having fun in the sun this summer. Taking precautions, using simple tricks, and purchasing the right products will assist you and your house guests with mosquito issues. Beat the itch this summer and every summer after!

Fun Fact: Put dryer sheets in your pockets to use as a repellent from mosquitoes. (Science says it works- worth a try, right?)
