Top 3 Early Spring Bloomers

As you drive around town, you will notice that some shrubs and trees have started to bloom! Oh, what a sight to see, especially after a long winter! These blooming plants give us hope that spring is right around the corner. Here are our favorite early spring bloomers that should be added to your yard, pronto!

Everyone knows about Forsythia. This shrub is the true sign that spring has almost arrived. It usually blooms mid-February and makes quite a showing! The tiny yellow flowers line all of the woody stalks. Once the flowering is complete, Forsythia leafs out. Be sure to plant your Forsythia in full sun!

Okame Cherry

Now, this tree is a SHOW STOPPER! The Okame Cherry tree blooms around the same time as the Forsythia. While the grass is still brown and the hardwoods are still leafless, the Okame Cherry tree will begin to come to life with beautiful, soft pink flowers! Plant this tree in full sun with spacing of 20-25 feet.

Texas Scarlet Flowering Quince

This one is a beauty! The Texas Scarlet Flowering Quince is another shrub that is a precursor to spring’s arrival! Again, the Texas Scarlet Flowering Quince will bloom mid-February, just like the previously mentioned plants. This shrub is an excellent addition to a small space, as it grows 3 feet tall and 5 feet wide.
